Woman celebrates 50th birthday with 2,700-mile bike tour
Tracy Burge has got some pretty unique plans for her 50th birthday. According to the Springfield News-Sun, she intends on ringing in the big five-oh with a 2,745-mile bike race across the Continental Divide. The Tour Divide asks cyclists to traverse a path that takes them from British Columbia all the way down to New Mexico in less than a month. It's a rigorous adventure, but one that a bike touring enthusiast like Burge believes she's capable of handling.
"I guess I'm just in search," she told the news source. "How far can I go? What's going to stop me?"
According to the Adventure Cycling Association, if Burge successfully completes the tour, she'll become the oldest woman to do so. Of course, it's a difficult tour that many cyclists fail to complete - Burge tells the source that the majority of riders don't make it past Montana. However, that doesn't mean she isn't up for the challenge. She intends on embarking in June, a few days ahead of other competitors, who believe they can complete the entire tour in about two weeks.
