California couple to wed during bike tour
After 13 years and tens of thousands of riders, the annual Tour de Palm Springs is seeing its first wedding. According to MyDesert.com, Lara Anderson and her beau are expected to exchange vows after cycling more than 50 miles through the city. Bike touring enthusiasts may have seen a lot during their time on the tour, but it's unlikely they've had the chance to watch a wedding on two wheels!
The Tour de Palm Springs' official website states that it began with a paltry 300 riders back in 1999. Since then, it's expanded to an astounding 9,400 cyclists, making it one of the largest nonprofits in the country, in terms of money donated, though there's only one employee on the payroll. Last year, the Tour donated more than $225,000 to local charities.
Officials have taken steps to ensure that each Tour is more entertaining than the last - local businesses are commissioned to provide entertainment for the riders and supporters who crowd the streets to cheer on participants. It all comes together to create a unique and wonderful experience for all of those involved.
