The TransAmerica Trail was established for Adventure Cycling's celebration of the U.S. bicentennial in 1976. At that time, the organization was called Bikecentennial, a name many old-timers still associate with the TransAm Trail. This is still the greatest and most used route crossing America. This classic ride offers everything you would expect from a transcontinental crossing. You'll encounter all kinds of scenery and terrain, including ocean coastline, lush forests, high desert, mountain passes, snow-capped peaks, sweeping vistas, expansive plains, fertile farmlands, rolling hills, and wide rivers. You'll pass through small, out-of-the-way towns in America that still serve up some of the best home-cooked meals and fresh-baked pies.

The Southern Tier Bicycle Route is our shortest cross-country route and offers a wide variety of terrain, vegetation, climate, and people all the way across the nation from the Pacific to the Atlantic. The route is rich in human culture and history -- ranging from the Spanish and Mexican influences in California, to the ancient indigenous pueblo cultures in Arizona and New Mexico, to the imprint of the Spanish conquistadors in Texas, to the bayous and French influences of Louisiana, to the Old South of Mississippi and Alabama, to a four-hundred-year-old city in Florida.

Washington and Oregon: This is a stunningly beautiful ride that features the Oregon coast, one of the true highlights of bicycle touring in the United States. You'll see spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean with haystacked shaped rocks standing firm like sentries as they are splashed by the roaring ocean waves.

California Coast: The California Coast section is tremendously diverse. You'll encounter massive redwoods, breathtaking coastline vistas, acres and acres of vegetable farms, fruit orchards, and many urban areas.

The Western Express Bicycle Route connects San Francisco, California, on the West Coast to the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail in Pueblo, Colorado. It provides a shorter mileage option (476 miles less when compared to the TransAmerica) on a central cross-country route but challenges the rider with extreme weather and riding conditions, as well as logistical obstacles. One's efforts are rewarded, however, by experiencing some of the least visited and most magnificent areas of the American West.
